About Tennessee Tech Baseball

Picture
A true measure of sustained success is consistency, and no baseball team has had a higher consistent finish in the final standings of the Ohio Valley Conference over the past seven years than the Tennessee Tech baseball program. Since the 2009 season, the Golden Eagles have racked up an average finish of 3.2 in the league's final standings, accumulating two regular season titles and one tournament championship along the way.

As far as sending talent on to the next level, no other school has produced more professional players from the Ohio Valley Conference over the past eight years than Tennessee Tech. Twenty-four former Golden Eagles have gone on to sign professional contracts in that span. Even more impressive, the Tech program boasts the league's longest active streak of having a player taken in the MLB Draft (seven straight years) and longest active streak of having a player sign with a Major League squad (eight straight years). Over the past seven seasons, no other Ohio Valley Conference squad has boasted as many draft picks as the Golden Eagles, who have had 14 players selected since 2008.

On the scoreboard, Tech has gotten the job done as well, posting the second-highest win percentage among Ohio Valley Conference teams over the past eight seasons, falling just three tenths of a percent behind Jacksonville State. The Golden Eagles' mark of .557 can be attributed to 250 victories and just 199 losses, including two 40-win seasons in 2013 and 2014.

In the classroom, the past 10 Golden Eagle squads have posted the 10 highest team GPA marks, since records started being kept in 1972. The 2014 team set the record with a 3.20 GPA and the 2015 squad ranked right behind with a 3.17 mark.

Tennessee Tech Baseball has enjoyed recent successes as well.  In 2017, the Golden Eagle Baseball squad won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship and competed in the 2017 Tallahassee Regional earning a win against Florida State.

In 2018, Tech again won the OVC Regular Season Championship and earned the first Automatic Bid in OVC history.  The Golden Eagles competed in the Oxford, MS where they beat Ole Miss twice on the last day to advance to their first NCAA Super Regional in school and conference history.  Travelling to Austin, Tennessee Tech Baseball defeated Texas in Game 1 of the NCAA Super Regional.

In the summer of 2018, Tennessee Tech hired Justin Holmes as its new head coaching.  Holmes is looking to continue the storied tradition here in Cookeville, TN!
